Excerpt: He dreamed of her, and he thought he would dream of her for the rest of his (short, short) life.
He dreamed of her, and he thought he would dream of her for the rest of his (short, short) life (or was he dead already? he thought he remembered dying and dissolving but then where was he now, how was he dreaming?).
Sakura was her name, or maybe it wasn't, but she had green, green eyes and her smile always made his stomach drop to his feet, even when emotions were dull and far away. He could see her through his blind eye, he thought, if only he could open it (or were his eyes open? is this the world after life, blind and dark and silent? or it the world for those who were not supposed to be real, the puppets pushed away on their shelves?).
He thought sometimes he was dreaming away his damnation, but this place to sleep was better than any concepts of hellfire or afterlife. He could think of her, and feel peace. There was the other Syaoran to take care of her still, and he had done his best. He knew that fact would make her happy. Maybe one day (or maybe not, but he could hope, there was no law proscribing it here, it seemed) she would come to him here, or he could see her again, and press her head to his chest, and all would be well.
He shut his eyes, or did not open them, and waited.
