Where I Belong (Jasmine gen)
Title: Where I Belong
Fandom: Aladdin
Length: 111 words
Prompt: Fic inspired by the lyrics to "Go the Distance" from Hercules for the January Writing Contest at So Magical the Original Disney Trading Card Game
Pairing: Jasmine gen
Other: n/a
Excerpt: "You're a lucky girl, Jasmine," he'd tell me. "Every little girl wants to be you."
Every little girl dreams of being a princess. That's what my father told me when I was young and complained about having no friends, about not being able to leave the palace.
"You're a lucky girl, Jasmine," he'd tell me. "Every little girl wants to be you."
I knew that life outside was full of hardship, sand, an early marriage, an unmarked death. But still I stood on the balcony and longed to be out among those in the crowded marketplace.
So when the time was right, I took my extra clothes from my hiding place and slipped out into the city.
I'm ready to find the place I'm supposed to be.
