Marathoning (Al gen)
Title: Marathoning
Day/Theme: 3. a spirit in my feet
Series: Fullmetal Alchemist
Character/Pairing: Ed and Al gen
Rating: G
Note: Probably AU.
Excerpt: When they first started journeying, they turned away from the cooling ashes and began to walk. Their steps were heavy and Ed couldn't smell anything except fire (ash, loss, can't go back, won't) for three days.

The second day, Al made his brother camp. Ed was listing across the road in a worrisome manner. Al was sure his brother hardly knew where they were, much less where they were going.
"You don't need to stop," Ed protested when his brother put a hand on his shoulder. "We can keep going."
"You need to stop, Onii-chan. It's no good to get where we're going if you're going to be falling over when we do."
He guided Ed to a clearing beside the road and lumbered into the forest to gather firewood. This body handled the weight with ease. If he were still human, he'd be holding the two of them up, making them travel more slowly. Ed would stop and eat and sleep for Al's sake. The irony did not escape the boy in the suit of armor.
When he made it back to the campsite, Ed was standing on the edge of the road, rocking back and forth on his heels.
"Onii-chan?"
"Let's walk along a little further, okay, Al?"
"You need some rest," the younger boy said gently.
"But we have to--"
"For me, okay? I don't want to have to carry you later."
"WHAT? What do you mean I'm as small as--" Edward began, puffing himself up, and Al laughed, the sound echoing, metallic, in his helmet.
"Would you light the fire, Onii-chan?"
"You're not even cold!" Ed said, but he clapped his hands together anyway, and (inwardly) his little brother smiled.

If we were talking about Edward and Al if they never were alchemists and living in our world... that's AU.
At least that was my impression.

See, I didn't know if it was discussed or not, so I figured to be on the safe side.... that way if it was utterly uncanon, I could call it AU.
