He saw it one morning, and he looked for it in all the photographs he had of her after she was gone, but he never quite found it again. Perhaps it was a combination of the early morning light and his satisfaction at waking beside her. Nonetheless, it was an image he would always treasure--the angle at which his wife was most beautiful.

He leaned up on an elbow to turn the alarm off. She hadn't stirred, and when he looked down at her, he was overcome. There she lay, her back curled like a comma, her dark curls spilling across the pillow, uncontainable as always. Her sweet pink lips were parted just a little, like the promise of a kiss, and one slim pale arm was resting carefully on her gently rounded stomach.

When the alarm stopped he sank back into the bed and put his arm around her, tucking his fingers gently into hers. He wasn't used to how big she was getting, but he enjoyed the soft curvy lines of her pregnancy. That's my son in there, he thought sleepily, still amazed by the concept. Only a few months remained until sleeping in a little Monday morning was no longer an option. They would have a new mouth to feed.

He pressed his face into her shoulder and waited for the alarm to go off again and they would have to start the day. Until then, he would just be the man sleeping beside the most beautiful woman in the world.
