Excerpt: "Babies are fragile," he protested, looking down at the child with a mixture of fear and joy. He reached out and brushed the little girl's hand, but she didn't stir.
"She won't break," Yukito chided his partner gently, looking down at the babe carefully tucked into the crib. Touya gave him a stricken look-- the same one he'd worn all day as they'd fed and entertained the child.
"Babies are fragile," he protested, looking down at the child with a mixture of fear and joy. He reached out and brushed the little girl's hand, but she didn't stir.
"Any daughter of Sakura can't be easy to upset," Yukito said. the baby had been quite good-natured, as he had expected, only exhibiting a Syaoran-like scowl when her diaper was being changed. Yukito was grateful; he wasn't sure how Touya would have reacted if she'd been fussy. Probably call an ambulance.
"I just... I want to do this right, you know?" Touya said, still looking down at the little girl as if he expected her to wake at any moment. Yuki reached out and took his hand, and after a moment, Touya squeezed it.
"I know," Yuki said softly. "I want to do this right too."
They gazed at the child for a moment longer, making sure her breathing was even. Then they retired to the kitchen, where their adoption forms were awaiting final details.
If babysitting skills were any indication, their own child would be just fine.
