Meiling tried to be happy for Syaoran but sometimes it was hard. One of those times was during the Christmas season. Every time she turned around, it seemed, there were happy couples planning their celebrations. Even Naoko had a boyfriend this year, and Rika, blushing, was beginning to talk about hers more and more, without too many details. Yamazaki and Chiharu were perpetually arguing, but he had taken to carrying around mistletoe and threatening to explain it unless she kissed him.
Meiling knew Tomoyo was helping Syaoran plan his date with Sakura, and she didn't really mind. She understood-- probably better than anybody-- that Tomoyo's devotion to Sakura was absolute. She would never stop loving Sakura, even if she had "given" her to Syaoran. This was just something Tomoyo would do.
So she was honestly surprised when Tomoyo caught her after class one day in early December, calling out her name. Her face was flushed in the cold and Meiling had to smile as she approached. Something about Tomoyo always made her happy.
"Meiling-chan," Tomoyo said, her flush deepening a little, "what are you doing for Christmas?"
"Oh, I... I don't know," Meiling said, confused. Surely she wasn't going to be enlisted for videotaping aid?
"Well, would you like to have dinner with me?" Tomoyo scuffed her foot on the ground a moment, seeming awkward. "I know... I know Christmas is for lovers, and all of that, but..."
Before she knew what she was doing, Meiling had leaned forward and taken Tomoyo's hand. It was small and cold and pale. Syaoran's hands were large and always warm and dark, but Meiling sort of liked the way she and Tomoyo matched together. She grinned.
"I'd love to," she said, swinging their attached arms, and the happy look in Tomoyo's eyes made Meiling count down the days.

I love when Meiling and Tomoyo hold hands in the anime. It's just so cute! This was so sweet and innocent and and I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!
