"I love you," she says childishly, and he wants to snap at her, wants to scream. Stealing this girl made sense at the time-- who would miss her in an asylum like that? --but the further away that he takes her, the more lucid she becomes, and he doesn't want her lucid when he does this. He wants her sleeping so he feels less guilty, like she is already dead, just waiting for his kiss.
