Bette was always sexiest, Tina thought at the beginning of their relationship, when she wore her work clothes. They'd met in the 1980's, when a woman had to be butch to be taken seriously in the workplace. Even still, she had a womanly hairstyle. Her hair was long and wavy and it curled onto Bette's shoulders in a way that made Tina's insides contract, just a little, in an interesting new way.

Later, when the newness wore off and Bette lived in powersuits more than she lived in their home, Tina thought she was sexiest in a rare moment of relaxation, when her hair was fluffy and her bra straps sliding down her shoulders. This thought led to a string of early-morning encounters and sleepy deep kisses.

Bette never found Tina sexy in a suit, and that was part of the problem in the end.
