Excerpt: It was the lesbian curse-- from cohabitation straight to utter normalcy. They both worked too much and begged off parties early.

They weren't the type of people who drank milk out of the carton. The living room was always clean and tastefully decorated. The bed was made and the magazines in the rack. Even the computer desktop was neatly organized.

They were old, Tina thought sometimes, grinning wryly. It was the lesbian curse-- from cohabitation straight to utter normalcy. They both worked too much and begged off parties early. They were old.

Bette's kisses still burned like fire on her skin and her hands were sweet and practiced and there was real love there-- so thick you could almost see it in their sensible home.

And if they were old, at least they were old together. She would never find this elsewhere-- she could never love anyone but Bette. It was okay to be boring.

She loved her. And that was that.
