Excerpt: Amu wore Ran's smile, Miki's cool walk, Su's warmth. She almost skipped as she strode. She was changing more and more every day.
For a girl who said she never wanted to change her character, she sure has made a big turn-around, Ran thought, holding to Amu's shoulder tight as she ran to meet her prince after school. Amu wore Ran's smile, Miki's cool walk, Su's warmth. She almost skipped as she strode. She was changing more and more every day.
Tadase was bashful but confident; Ran knew his guardian was working hard with him. (Once he'd been convinced that Amu would be the perfect queen, the little king had been putty in his creator's hands).
Fingers brushed and then clasped; they managed to share little more than glances as Tadase walked Amu home. Young love, young love, Ran thought. It made her want to cheer. She smiled.
A rustle in the bushes surprised all of them, but there was nothing there when Tadase looked. The cat had already gone away. Ran had spotted him earlier, his long form shadowed by the bush. She'd said nothing, not willing to interrupt.
He watched them almost every day, Ikuto did. He leaned back into the shadows and stared as they passed, an angry cat expression on his face. Jealousy, Ran supposed. The passion in him made her shiver in odd ways.
Amu hugged Tadase goodbye and her guardians followed her into the house. Ran made her way to the windowsill and watched the yards for signs of Ikuto. Nothing. She sighed.
Soon Amu would become the person she really wanted to be. Soon there would be no more need for the cheerleader, the artist, the baker. It was a guardian character's purpose.
Ran never told her sisters, but sometimes when she thought about Ikuto she wondered what it would be like to be her own person.

I love you because you are awesome. That is all. Ran/Ikuto... *shakes head* I don't blame Ran, though. He's so hot. But still! And it's just... perfection.
