Not a Date (Doumeki/Watanuki)

Title: Not a Date
Prompt: 7. Hmm, my favorite fandom on your list would be xxxHOLiC and I see you don't write most yaoi couples but do you write Doumeki/Watanuki? Or otherwise just a non-yaoi fic on them. I love their interaction. As for the prompt: "If I could drop dead right now, I'd be the happiest man alive." (Quote by Samuel Goldwyn)
Written for: [livejournal.com profile] littlesane
Genre: pre-yaoi, humor
Rating/Warnings: G, hints of yaoi

Excerpt: "If you were dead, how could you be the happiest man alive?" Doumeki said thoughtfully.

"Sure," Watanuki said, blushing furiously, "whatever you want. You did save my life and all."

Doumeki nodded and looked intently at Watanuki. He said nothing for a long moment, until Watanuki thought he would melt under the weight of the other's glare.

"What do you want me to say: 'If I could drop dead right now, I'd be the happiest man alive?'" Watanuki said, the last in a cracking falsetto with his hands clasped. "I said I'd go to dinner with you, that's all. Not the end of the world."

"If you were dead, how could you be the happiest man alive?" Doumeki said thoughtfully. Watanuki growled.

"Do you want the favor of my presence or not? It's hard enough putting up with you when Yuuko makes me. Stupid archer."

Doumeki smiled slightly and Watanuki shut up.

"See you tomorrow at seven," he said, striding back into the shrine.

"I have to leave early today," Watanuki said, the blush rising back to his cheeks. Yuuko exchanged a knowing glance with Mokona.

"Ohohoho," she said. "Got a big date?"

"It's not a stupid date, it's just dinner!" Watanuki said, flailing. "With that stupid Doumeki!"

He'd had the same discussion with Himawari at lunch, and she had misunderstood as well. Doumeki just laughed and wouldn't defend himself. Himawari had told them to have a great time, and she wanted all the details tomorrow.

"A date with Doumeki?" Yuuko said, putting a finger to her lips knowing and ignoring Watanuki's protests. "Interesting... What are you going to wear?"

"A white button-front shirt and blue jeans," Watanuki said promptly, and then glared. "Why does it matter? It's not a date!"

"Watanuki's on a date! On a date! On a date!" Maru and Moro singsonged.

"Wear the gray button-front," Yuuko said thoughtfully. "It looks better on you."

"NOT A DATE!!!"

*

"That's an ugly shirt," Doumeki said in greeting when Watanuki answered the door.

"Stupid Yuuko," Watanuki muttered.

"What?"

"Nothing. Come on, let's get this over with. --Hey, stop it! Did I say you could hold my hand?!"

"I saved your life," Doumeki said conversationally.

"If I could drop dead right now..."

Doumeki laughed at him.
