Excerpt: The guardians were left to their own devices; in retrospect, perhaps a bad idea. Kero and Yue stared across the room at Spinelsun and Ruby Moon. No one spoke for a long moment.

A family reunion had seemed like a great idea when Eriol first proposed it. He barely knew Fujitaka, who was after all practically his brother, and he knew that Ruby Moon would be happy to see Touya again.

But when Touya became sick, inexplicably, on the day of their get-together, and Fujitaka was called into work, it was more of a magicians' consultation. Eriol and Sakura quickly elected to take a walk and discuss theory and the Clow Cards.

The guardians were left to their own devices; in retrospect, perhaps a bad idea. Kero and Yue stared across the room at Spinelsun and Ruby Moon. No one spoke for a long moment.

"Isn't there anything to do?" Ruby Moon said finally. "You want to spar a bit, Yue?"

"No," Yue said, unmoving. When he wanted to, he could look like a statue. Right now, he was testing the theory that predators have more trouble seeing stillness than motion.

The "predator," undeturred by his lack of enthusiasm, summoned some crystals into her hand.

"Come on, it will be fun..." she insisted.

"We don't need to mess up the house," Yue said. She took that as agreement and dragged him away. Meanwhile, Kero was desperately trying to come up with something to discuss with Spinel.

"Ever played Puzzle League?"

"No."

"Race O' Rama 3?"

"No."

"Tetris?" Kero tried desperately.

"No," Spinel said, unblinking.

When Eriol and Sakura returned from their walk, comfortably discussing one of Clow's better drinking stories, which Eriol was amused to share, they found the house in shambles.

"KERO! YUE!" Sakura yelled. After a moment all four of the guardians were assembled. Kero and Ruby Moon were wearing guilty looks, but Yue and Spinelsun were as implacable as usual.

"What have you guys been doing?" Sakura said to her guardians; Eriol lifted an eyebrow and stared at his own.

"Nothing!" Kero and Ruby Moon both said at the same time in their best innocent tones.

Sakura glared. After a moment, Kero said, "We were just playing Tetris..."

"Tetris knocked my drapes down and my bedclothes to the floor?"

"Well, Suppi was on a winning streak-- he's really good-- so I got us some snacks, and then he started acting all hyper..."

"Spinelsun is allergic to sweets, Kero!" Sakura said, exasperated. "And the reason that the furniture is all knocked askew, Yue?"

To his surprise, Yue felt an embarrassed flush come to his face. He didn't much like her glare of disapproval.

"Ruby Moon..." Yue mumbled.

"We were just westling a little," Ruby said cheerfully, coming up from behind Yue, grabbing his ponytail and pulling him down to give him a noogie. Yue glared and pulled free.

"A little? And there's plaster all over the floor?"

Eriol was very quietly trying not to smile. He'd grown used to things like this from his guardians. Apparently Sakura's companions were generally better-behaved.

"Well, I guess that leaves off ever doing this again," Sakura grumbled, and all four guardians snapped to attention at her words.

"But--" they all said together.

"We were having fun!" Kero protested.

"I haven't beat level 16!" Spinel said, sounding disappointed.

"Yue was going to show me some alternatives to blocking!" Ruby Moon pouted.

"Sakura-san..." Yue said, and then stopped, melting back into his implacable pose as he realized he seemed too excited.

Sakura said, "Hoe?" Eriol laughed.

"I'll host it next year," he said. "For your piece of mind."

Sakura smiled and the guardians who had just been in agreement changed their mind.

"But she messes up my hair!" Yue said.

"And that goblin trumped my high score in level 8!" Kero said. "I can't--"

"Concede defeat," Yue concluded dryly, staring at his brother.

"Next year," Eriol said cheerfully. "See you then!"
