Excerpt: "They're just like children," he said with a laugh. "Children, and you didn't even have to get pregnant, darling."

"Your feet are cold!" Kaho said, surprised when he brushed her.

"Sorry," Eriol said quickly, pulling his feet away. He lay there, still, wondering how to broach the fact that it was their wedding night, and though it hadn't been a big ceremony and they had held it at home, they were still officially married, and that he didn't want to be cold.

He turned on his side to explain this to her and was surprised but not annoyed when her lips met his. It was just getting interesting (and Eriol's feet weren't as cold), when the door swung open, hitting the wall with a crack, and then a large force fell onto the bed, shaking it.

The large force was in fact Akizuki Nakuru, who squealed with delight and bounced a little bit. Eriol and Kaho pulled apart like children who had been caught doing something bad.

"Eriol," Nakuru said cheerfully, "I'm so excited that you got married today! Doesn't that make you happy? And I got to wear a pretty dress, and so did Kaho, and now she's kind of like my master too and we're a big happy family!"

She bounced again to convey her excitement and Kaho looked at Eriol for his response. For a moment she saw a glint of annoyance, and then he laughed.

"You're right, Nakuru. There's my wife, and me, and my two favorite guardians," he said.

"Who's making all the noise?" Spinel said irritably and floated through the doorway. When he saw Nakuru he turned to flee, but she caught him by the tail.

"Suppi, aren't you so happy to be a family now?" she said.

Struggling to free his tail, Spinel replied, "Weren't we a family before?"

Nakuru paused to contemplate that and let Spinel go. He floated up and settled on the light fixture.

"Yeah," Nakuru decided finally, "but now it's a complete family."

"Nakuru, could I ask you something, my--"

Son, daughter? Eriol thought, unsure of the pronoun. He should have just given Nakuru a gender.

"My dear guardian?" he substituted.

"Of course, Eriol," Nakuru said. "It's getting kind of late. Do you want me to let you sleep in tomorrow? I'll stay downstairs until noon, I promise!"

"Well... that would involve me getting to sleep in the first place, wouldn't it?" Eriol said, lifting an eyebrow, and Nakuru got the hint. She jumped straight upwards and caught Spinel down from the light fixture, and ran out of the room, saying, "Have a good night!"

Kaho got up and shut the door, then came back to bed. Eriol's feet were cold again, but this time she said nothing. He shifted close to her and put his arm around her waist.

"They're just like children," he said with a laugh. "Children, and you didn't even have to get pregnant, darling."

"At least we would have had nine months to ourselves first," Kaho pointed out wryly.

"True," Eriol said. He said nothing else for a long moment, and Kaho listened to him breathe.

"Eriol?" she said finally.

The only answer was the steady breath of her sleeping husband. Well, sleep when they could, she supposed. With Nakuru and Spinelsun around, doubtless there would be little time when they had peace and quiet.

Kaho let herself drift off, but not before vowing to make a large "DO NOT DISTURB" sign to post on their bedroom door.
