"Come here, walk beside me, Li-kun," Tomoyo said in her most mystical voice. "I have a story to tell you."

Syaoran lifted an eyebrow, but obliged. All he had to do was walk a little slower. When they were walking in P.E., Tomoyo liked to keep to the back of the line.

"Once upon a time," Tomoyo began, lacing her fingers behind her head, "there was a beautiful princess, beloved in all the land. And there were two princes fighting for her hand. One prince protected the princess at all cost, but the other wooed her with flowers and gifts. When the first prince tried to prove himself superior in a joust, the second prince won quite easily."

Syaoran was not pleased by her story. He began to walk faster, but Tomoyo called after him, "Don't you want to hear how it turns out?" Reluctantly he slowed. He didn't want to hear how the second prince won the heart of the princess, like he knew he would. And if Syaoran was picturing a certain blue-haired adversary for the second prince, that was certainly Tomoyo's intention.

"But the first prince stuck by the princess, even if he continued to lose in battles of valor and skill. And in the end, the princess looked around and said, "O, my prince, if only you had told me that you loved me, then I would marry you. But you have loyally stood by my side as a friend." And then she married the second prince."

Syaoran sighed, and Tomoyo poked him with her gaze.

"I know I need to tell her," he said quietly. "I mean, I think the prince should have told the princess how he felt, but what if she did not reciprocate his feelings and he would have been thrown out of the kingdom, and then unable to be by her side?"

"He would have been praised for his valor, and not exiled," Tomoyo said, her eyes softening. "Did you like the story, Li-kun?"

Syaoran shrugged, but the next time that Sakura rounded the track (she had been running alongside the Adversary, when the rest of them were walking, and he didn't even seem tired), he jogged to catch up with her.

Tomoyo smiled, and no one noticed if she walked a little slower.
