To die, to sleep
To sleep, perchance to dream
Aye, there's the rub, for in that sleep of death
What dreams may come?
"Eriol-kun, I've been seeing things," Sakura began uncertainly. She scuffed her foot on the ground and said, "I've been seeing the future in my dreams again."
This was a serious thing and he wasn't surprised then that she had asked to see him, and he understood why she wouldn't tell him why on the phone.
"I'm sorry," he said, immediately feeling guilty and somewhat panicked. He hated breaking promises and he had sworn-- he had been so sure-- that the power to see the future wouldn't activate unless she wanted it to.
He broke the distance between them and enclosed her in a hug. She seemed so small now that he had grown into his age.
"Eriol-kun," Sakura said, leaning up on her toes to whisper in his ear, "I have been seeing your future."
Shocked, he stepped back out of their embrace. The few feet separating them felt like miles. The wind blew through the park, rustling their hair, and the anticipation in the air was a heavy weight.
Eriol didn't see the future anymore, and he watched tears drip down her face and wondered why she was mourning for him.
"I thought that I should tell you, should prepare you, so you enjoy the time that you have," she mumbled, but desperately he caught every word the wind tried to steal.
"Mizuki-sensei... is going to die soon," she whispered, and through tear-blurred eyes she saw the open-mouthed expression he wore. The pain hadn't reached his eyes yet but it would be there for all the time Kaho had left. Sakura wished that she hadn't been dreaming. She wished that she didn't have to tell him this.
But neither of those things were within her grasp, so instead this time she closed the distance and wrapped her arms around him.
"I'm sorry," she said, knowing it wasn't enough, but it was all she had, beyond the curse of divination.
"I'm so sorry."
