I smiled back, wondering why he made me feel so sinful, why something in me thrilled at the thought.

You have soiled me with your darkness, I thought, just as, he assured me later, I gave him sun poisoning with my bright light. Light obliterates darkness, and together we could never be, yet--

He just smiled and I was glad to drink his poison.
