Excerpt: The day of Himawari's funeral, Watanuki stood by the coffin for a very long time.

He never kissed her.

He never had the courage to close the gap, a gap grown so small over time that just a simple nudge... Doumeki had watched them, and shrugged, uncomprehending. Yuuko had just smiled.

The day of the funeral, Watanuki stood by the coffin for a very long time. Her parents had flown in from America and were having an American funeral, with a long-winded foreign priest and a viewing prior to shipping their daughter back to the place they called home. No matter that her home had been here for years.

Watanuki looked down at her. She was cold and still and could not have protested if he kissed her lips.

Still, he turned away.
