Summary: Sakura, Syaoran, and Tomoyo go to the beach, and Tomoyo ponders things.
On a nameless day in summer a girl, her boyfriend, and her best friend went to the shore to swim. Tomoyo brought her video camera and her sorrow, and Sakura added to the sunshine already present on that beautiful day.
Tomoyo taped Sakura and Syaoran as they played in the water, laughing and teasing. She watched Syaoran chase Sakura down the shoreline, each footstep eaten up by the impersonal ocean, which didn't care how much Tomoyo wanted to preserve this moment.
Tomoyo sat on a towel under a pink umbrella, watching. In a little while she would get up and join the pair, splashing and smiling. But right now she ran her hands through the sand. With one finger she traced a heart, and then rubbed it out.
"Tomoyo-chan, are you okay? Don't you want to play?" Sakura asked her, worriedly running over to where Tomoyo was sitting. She was wet and warm and smelled like life, a life Tomoyo could never have. She held out a hand made rough by sea salt and Tomoyo took it.
"I brought a volleyball," Tomoyo said cheerfully, and Sakura's eyes lit up. Tomoyo let Sakura pull her over to where Syaoran stood waiting, a boy with a trace of a smile on his lips and the only thing Tomoyo ever wanted in his grasp.
"I love the beach, don't you?" Sakura said happily, and of course Tomoyo agreed.
