Summary: Tomoyo looked all her life for the song that would make Sakura love her, but she never found it.

She looked all her life for that one song that would redeem her, sifting every time there was a contest through a slew of lyrics. She competed in school competitions until she graduated from college, and then some weekends would drive cross-country to sing at a karaoke bar or reality show audition.

She looked all her life for that one song that, upon hearing it, would make Sakura realize that Tomoyo loved her, and would make Sakura love her back; one twist in the glorious lyrics that would make this unrequited pain go away, even if it was only for a little while.

Even after Sakura died, Tomoyo sang. She sang at Sakura's grave, wishing she could see spirits like Fugitaka and Eriol could, praying that when she got to Heaven there would be Sakura standing there with open arms.

One song, she thought, that's all I need. Music is the food of love, is it not?

She sang the day she died, standing on the shoreline of a winter beach, her words thrown back at her with sea salt. Even nature didn't want her words. She sang and quietly the blood clot felled her and she dropped onto the sand, her lips still open.

She never found the song, and surrounded by music, she died of starvation. No one understood her drive, never did.

I love you, Sakura-chan.

I love you too, Tomoyo-chan.

That's not what I mean, though.

What do you mean?

I'll tell you when we're older.

Tomoyo wished that she could have found those words, her one song glory, but she died alone on the beach with shifting sands under her feet. Maybe someone will write a song about that someday.
