Excerpt: He's not calm, not at all now, and though Vash is sometimes insomniac he wonders if Wolfwood sleeps at all.
Anyone who knew Wolfwood before and Wolfwood now wouldn't think he was the same person. Not that he's ever really been the stereotype of a priest, but at least before there was some calmness in him.
He's not calm, not at all now, and though Vash is sometimes insomniac he wonders if Wolfwood sleeps at all. He doesn't ask, because there are things he'd prefer that Wolfwood not ask, and that's the way he buys the silence.
He's a strange sort of priest now, if he's a priest at all. It was easy to slip back into the old ways. There's a cigarette ever-present at the corner of his mouth, and he has the cold, unreal feeling when he kills someone that gradually begins to persist into all his waking hours until he wonders if he's lost the thread of his cause, the reason for his persistence.
Vash smiles and offers him a donut; Milly's ever-present grin cheers him a little. If he's forgotten the orphans, he can't forget his companions. If he can't do this for the orphans, their shadowy faces hidden from his memory, then he can at least help Vash. He's got enough grit to keep the gunman alive.
He tries not to think about the fact that he is Church, and that eventually Midvalley will tell him to use that huge cross gun (full of mercy, full of mercy) on his companions. He tries not to think about the orphans or the priesthood or anything beyond the next moment, because that's how he stays alive. The gangster and the priest can never meet.
