Forgive Me (Syaoran and Tomoyo gen)

Title: Forgive Me
Fandom: Cardcaptor Sakura
Subject: Li Syaoran and Daidouji Tomoyo
Theme(s): 25. Forgiveness
Disclaimer: Cardcaptor Sakura belongs to CLAMP.

Summary: An apology helps Tomoyo forgive Syaoran for stealing Sakura away, as illogical as her anger was.

It was probably the hardest thing Tomoyo ever did, to forgive Syaoran for stealing Sakura away. She knew that her love would not end happily, not like theirs would; who ever heard of the princess loving the other princess, instead of her destined knight? And it wasn't as though she could hate Syaoran; his clumsy innocence was as endearing as a puppy's. Still, it was hard to forgive him.

She tried not to hang out with them much. A couple needed their space, she explained to Sakura. She had more homework to do at her high school, anyway.

Syaoran came to Tomoyo the day before he was going to propose to Sakura, and with clear, confident eyes and a blush on his face, he asked her permission, much as he must have asked Fujitaka's and Touya's permissions. She found herself blushing. After a moment, she nodded. It was his sincere thank-you that allowed the hard part of her heart to break.

She threw her arms around Syaoran, and he went stiff with surprise. "Take good care of her," Tomoyo said, not losing the smile. She let him go. "And I want to tape your proposal!"

"But Daidouji, it's a personal thing..." he began to protest, reminding her of the boy he was who had made constant excuses as she tried to convince him to confess his feelings. It was strange that she had remained angry so long, since she had pushed the two of them together, but emotions were rarely logical.

"Okay," he finally capitulated. They began to walk towards the school Sakura and Syaoran attended, to wait for her to get out of cheerleading practice. Fondly Tomoyo wrapped her arm around Syaoran's, like a friend.

"Thanks for forgiving me," he said after a moment, giving her a sideways glance. It was her turn to stop stiffly and blush.

"You're welcome," she returned after a long moment, and the two of them went to meet their love.
