Helen (Syaoran and Tomoyo gen)

Title: Helen
Fandom: Cardcaptor Sakura
Subject: Li Syaoran and Daidouji Tomoyo
Theme(s): 17. Jealousy
Disclaimer: Cardcaptor Sakura belongs to CLAMP. "Jealousy, the green-eyed monster" is a quote from Shakespeare's Othello.

Summary: The scene in which Eriol helps Sakura make a teddy bear from two other point-of-views-- Syaoran's and Tomoyo's.

"Jealousy, the green-eyed monster," Tomoyo said when she finally made it up the tree and sat down beside him. She hadn't been a quiet climber, but he had been lost in thought and her presence surprised him. At least he had picked a short tree.

"Huh?" Syaoran said, and she shook her head.

"Missed the reference," she said. "That's okay."

"What are you doing, Daidouji-san?"

"Just climbing trees," she said innocently. "What a surprise to find that you beat me to this one!"

"Yeah, a surprise," Syaoran said, unconvinced.

"Jealousy, the green-eyed monster," she repeated. "Is it really such a bad thing?"

"Jealousy?" Syaoran repeated.

"Yes, jealousy. As in, coveting something someone else has. For example, coveting Sakura since Eriol has her attention at the moment and is showing her how to properly sew a teddy bear."

"I don't know what you're talking about!" Syaoran insisted, but not loud enough that the people he was observing could hear.

"I think jealousy is a great thing," Tomoyo continued, as though she hadn't heard Syaoran's protest. "Jealousy is a motivator. For example, the Trojan War. Two men wanted the same girl and they fought a bloody war over her."

"I don't know what you're talking about," Syaoran mumbled.

"If you say so," Tomoyo said, smiling, and began to climb out of the tree. Syaoran stopped her on the next branch.

"What should I do?" he said.

Tomoyo's eyes sparkled. "Something impressive," she said. "Defeat him in honorable combat."

She saw the way Syaoran's eyes lit up and quickly added, "Metaphorically, of course." He nodded. She slid out of the tree and for a moment observed Sakura from behind the brush.

"Just like Helen," Tomoyo sighed. "Just like Helen."
