Martha can't believe that someone else is being calm about this; if she didn't have several better things to do she might gape and question, but instead she sits down next to Joan and starts pulling out the bandages.
"Aren't you curious?" she asks finally, after they've worked in professional, desperate-but-precise silence for a while; Joan has a bloodstain on her beautiful designer sweater and Martha's sure she's ruined her favorite pair of jeans.
Joan's hands hesitate, just a moment, and tremble, but finally she shakes her head and says, "I'll figure out how I feel about aliens later, but there are people who need us," and that's that; Martha catches up with the Doctor and doesn't see Joan ever again (although she'll never forget her).
