Although the TARDIS would probably never admit it, she's a little biased toward female companions. They tend to balance out her dear Doctor more, to soothe his tempers rather than encourage him. And sometimes they gave him the slap on the face that he so desperately needed. This version of the Doctor, she knows, will need more care than any of the others. He's hurting, just like she is, and the void seems more lonely than usual, less of an invitation.

Her Doctor needs someone more than ever, and she hadn't thought that this grumpy man would be the right one, but he can help. He makes the Doctor want to show off again, and he's very polite to her. He notices that she's not a simple machine at first glance. Few do, even when she wears the Coral theme. Clef sleeps nearly as little as the Doctor does, and sometimes he will bring a book into the control room and read to her, late at night, when the Doctor broods elsewhere. She's touched by his efforts, even if she already knows more about the universe than he will ever know.

The Doctor is first in her heart, always, her thief, her hero. But Clef is a welcome companion, and she'll enjoy the time they have together. If there is one thing she values, it is time.
