[various fandoms] various titles (various pairings)

A collection of short promptfic for my plurk flisters.

Title: for that face
Fandom: Doctor Who
Length: 132 words
Prompt: For Kristi - Nine/Rose
Pairing: Nine and Rose gen
Other: n/a

Excerpt: He'd never think to ask her, but later, after he's become this stranger with too many words and smaller ears, Rose thinks about the places they've been, the people they've seen, and she tries to pick a favorite adventure.

He'd never think to ask her, but later, after he's become this stranger with too many words and smaller ears, Rose thinks about the places they've been, the people they've seen, and she tries to pick a favorite adventure. But she can't -- they all seem to meld together in her mind when she tries, a mishmash of running and her heart beating fast, and the crooked way he smiles, the feel of the scuffed leather jacket on her palms. It's him that she remembers most, not the aliens or the planets or the others they've met, and when she realizes this, she feels better, that someone will remember him like that, no matter how many other faces he has or will wear. She can do that for him.

Title: kindled
Fandom: Polychromatic-verse: Avatar/Firestarter - Stephen King
Length: 143 words
Prompt: For Mouse - Charlie/Toph
Pairing: Charlie and Toph gen
Other: n/a

Excerpt: Toph knows Charlie's heartbeat, knows the extra warmth that burns beneath Charlie's skin, and she finds it reassuring in so many ways.

Toph knows Charlie's heartbeat, knows the extra warmth that burns beneath Charlie's skin, and she finds it reassuring in so many ways. Consistency in the City is a laughable thing, but even though so many friends have come and gone, Charlie stays. Toph feels Charlie's footsteps as the girl dances across the teashop, hurrying to serve someone, and she feels like she could follow in them without missing even a beat. They know each other, and there is something so utterly wonderful about that -- like the last warm coal at the bottom of a sleeping fire, like the consistency of sand beneath her palms; Toph can dig and dig but the holes will fill themselves in, given time. So Toph laughs and the earth rumbles a fond response as she's calling out Charlie's name to say good morning.

Title: starfire
Fandom: Polychromatic-verse: Doctor Who/Firestarter - Stephen King
Length: 121 words
Prompt: For Mouse: Charlie/Nine
Pairing: Charlie & Nine gen
Other: n/a

Excerpt: He could have crossed the universe with her, never popping her home to see her mum for tea.

He might have taken her with him, in another universe, one where he'd met her first. She was determined and smart, and perhaps more importantly, she had no real ties to Earth. He could have crossed the universe with her, never popping her home to see her mum for tea. But he would have left her back there someday, out of hurt or guilt, because she still had a place to be, even if she didn't think it was hers, and she deserved to make something of it while she was still young and dreaming. Still, he thinks about it, more than once, because her heart was full of starfire, and it was hard to turn away.

Title: with 'em or without 'em
Fandom: Avatar
Length: 103 words
Prompt: For Lila: Lila - Mai & Tom Tom
Pairing: Mai and Tom Tom gen
Other: n/a

Excerpt: It irritates Mai sometimes, the easy way the baby takes to her.

It irritates Mai sometimes, the easy way the baby takes to her. He shouldn't like her at all -- goodness knows, she never paid him much attention when he was tiny -- but now that he can walk he follows her all around the house whenever she visits, drooling on her robes. It's disgusting, that fascinating look on his face. Funny thing is, it's hard to forget, even after the passage of time, and she finds herself sending him something for his fourth birthday to remind him of her: his first knives. You can't start too early, after all.
