Excerpt: "Look, there's that merchant that Azula scared into giving us free dumplings that one time. And the lady who sold me that great scarf!" Ty Lee continues.

They've been in prison for almost a week and Ty Lee can feel her aura becoming less pink. It's worrying to her. No matter the situation, she can find the best in it, but the only good thing about prison so far is that Mai is with her. She'd hate to be alone.

The problem is, being with Mai isn't always much better than being alone. Mai refused to say anything for two days, and when she finally did talk, it was to carefully plan Zuko's death for putting her in this situation. Ty Lee is positive that Mai isn't really serious, but listening to Mai's cold voice talk about her knives gives Ty Lee the heebie-jeebies, a little.

She figures it's guilt, at first, the graying of her aura. She doesn't regret stopping Azula, but she hated having to do it. Fighting Azula has consequences a lot worse than being locked up. Azula might not want to be her friend anymore, and even if Azula isn't always nice to... well, not to most people, really, Ty Lee does care for her. That's why she wouldn't let Azula do something she regretted, and she totally would have regretted hurting Mai.

Well, they'd get out of here eventually. Something would change. It always did. Then her aura would pink right up again.

She leans against the wall and then does a handstand, just to keep limber. There's not a lot of room in here, but Mai says nothing when Ty Lee almost kicks her by accident. Normally that would cause some sort of dry retort. Maybe Mai is feeling more gray than usual too.

"I think we should go shopping," Ty Lee suggests. The metal of the cell floor is cold on her palms.

"Are you crazy? Do you think they're just going to let us walk out of here?" Mai rolls her eyes and crosses her arms. Ty Lee grins, although upside-down it's a frown. She wonders if she should scowl instead.

"No, but we can dream, can't we? Right now, in my head, I'm walking into the big bazaar in the capital. It smells like porklizard rice balls and that perfume you like." Ty Lee balances carefully on a single hand. Her braid dangles down and brushes the floor, making pretty shush-shush sounds.

"Oh, please," Mai says.

"Look, there's that merchant that Azula scared into giving us free dumplings that one time. And the lady who sold me that great scarf!" Ty Lee continues.

"Unlikely. That was the ugliest scarf I've ever seen. No way she's still in business." Mai is scratching at the floor with her nails. The sound makes Ty Lee want to grit her teeth, but she keeps going anyway.

"Well, maybe she retired to be with her husband in his old age. Look, Mai, a knives salesman! Do you want to stop?"

Mai hesitates before replying. "Probably kitchen knives."

"No, they're combat knives, can't you see? I think they're nice. We should look."

Mai sighed. Then she nodded. Ty Lee flipped back to her feet so her grin could be right side up.

Yep, she was feeling pinker already. Shopping with Mai was always such fun.
