[Magic Knight Rayearth] when I ride off into the sunset (I want my own horse) (Hikaru/Lantis/Eagle)
Title: when I ride off into the sunset (I want my own horse)
Fandom: Magic Knight Rayearth
Length: 485 words
Prompt: fic_promptly: Magic Knight Rayearth, Hikaru, Let's do it!
Pairing: Hikaru/Lantis/Eagle
Other: n/a
Excerpt: "We can't just creep away with one of the Magic Knights," Eagle said, although he was amused by the idea.
"One day," Eagle said, his large hand clutched in Hikaru's warm fingers, "I should take you to Autozam and show you the hydroponic gardens. They are doing so much better nowadays. I hardly recognized them when I visited."
Hikaru smiled -- beamed; he'd never met someone so cheerful as she was, over the tiniest things. Eagle smiled often, but he never meant it as much as Hikaru did -- until recently. Her joy was catching. There was an ease in Lantis's shoulders now that had never been there as long as Eagle had known him. It wasn't a smile, but it was nearly as good. He was sitting on the other side of the bed, supposedly reading, but Eagle knew that he was listening. You had to look deeper when it came to Lantis.
"Let's do it!" she said. Lantis glanced up for a moment.
"Do what?" he asked.
"Go to Autozam!" Hikaru said. "Eagle's told me so much about it, and Autozam and Cephiro are friends now, so we could visit. Geo would take us, I bet. He gets bored sitting around while everyone else is in meetings."
Indeed, everyone was. Eagle was exempt for this moment, which was supposed to be his afternoon nap. Months of recovery, and there was still more necessary. He didn't mind as long as Hikaru and Lantis were around for it. Perhaps it was a bit selfish, but Eagle allowed himself this.
"We can't just creep away with one of the Magic Knights," Eagle said, although he was amused by the idea. He could sleep on the way, if necessary, and then the three of them could walk among the rows, tamed and thriving. Perhaps she could meet his father. He was too busy to attend these gatherings, but he seemed encouraging when Eagle spoke of her.
"We don't have to sneak!" Hikaru said, and Lantis shook his head. He carefully marked his place in his book and shut it, resting it on his knees.
"Guru Clef would have something to say about sudden vacations in the middle of diplomatic summits," he said matter-of-factly.
"Well," Eagle said, taking his hand back from Hikaru with the slightest regret, and sitting up in the bed, "I suspect he would have something to say, regardless of timing. We can leave a nice note."
"That's a good idea," Hikaru said, popping up and grabbing his day clothes from the dresser. "I'm sure he'll understand."
She handed Eagle's things to Lantis, and when Eagle began to unbutton his shirt, she blushed and ran for the door.
"I'll go write the note and find Geo, okay? It won't take long!"
She disappeared in a clatter of bright footsteps, and Eagle smiled. He looked at Lantis.
"It is very hard to tell her no," Lantis allowed.
"Impossible, I've found," Eagle answered cheerfully, dressing and pulling on his boots, and together, they went to find her.
