[Tortall] the world's more full of weeping (Buri gen)
Title: the world's more full of weeping
Fandom: Tortall
Length: 186 words
Prompt: Given a character, I will write something about them in precanon: Buri & Thayet
Pairing: Buri gen
Other: n/a
Excerpt: Sometimes, Buri thought, it would be easier if Thayet were more like the princesses she'd heard of in other countries, spoiled and whiny girls who didn't much appreciate their accidents of birth.
Sometimes, Buri thought, it would be easier if Thayet were more like the princesses she'd heard of in other countries, spoiled and whiny girls who didn't much appreciate their accidents of birth. But Thayet wasn't like that at all. She was smart and surprisingly practical -- her mother's influence, presumably. Seeing the way that the girl was treated, and the pragmatic way she bore up under it, Buri couldn't help but wish, but hope something could change for her. If there was ever a woman who deserved to be queen, it was her lady.
But wishes and hopes didn't buy bread, and dreaming didn't keep them safe. So Buri didn't think about those things very often. It was more important to take care of the princess. To keep going until they could figure out what to do. Going back was no option. It wouldn't have been an option even if her mother and brother hadn't died so that Kalasin could make a point.
They'd go forward to something new. Buri trusted her lady to figure out what that would be. Until then, she just kept moving.
