[Magic Knight Rayearth] ornaments of your house (Clef & Presea)

Title: ornaments of your house
Fandom: Magic Knight Rayearth
Length: 485 words
Prompt: Given a character/pairing, I will write about them during precanon: Clef/Presea
Pairing: slight Clef/Presea, mostly gen
Other: Makes mention of the (headcanoned) Pharle before Presea, Perdana.

Excerpt: Presea waved, one more time, to Perdana, before she shut the door. She turned around, taking it all in. This house, the one that she'd shared with her master for almost eight years, was only hers now.

Presea waved, one more time, to Perdana, before she shut the door. She turned around, taking it all in. This house, the one that she'd shared with her master for almost eight years, was only hers now. Perdana had elected to retire elsewhere, leaving Presea room to do what she wanted here: it was the Pharle's house, after all.

It had never seemed so big before, not until this moment that she was alone in it. She walked through the room as if seeing things for the first time. Perdana had left the furniture, which her predecessor had left, and probably from the age of some of these pieces, her predecessor's predecessor. The walls were clean and white, Perdana's few decorations gone, and although Presea had planned to put up her own, she found that she liked the simple bareness.

Her footsteps echoed as she made her way into the forge, quiet and waiting for her, for whatever she chose to do as Pharle. The headband still felt a little foreign on her forehead, and she reached up to adjust it thoughtfully. She could start this or perhaps fix that, but... not right now.

A knock at her door pulled her from her reverie. She went to answer it, figuring that Perdana realized she'd forgotten something, but she actually took a step backwards in surprise when she saw who was at her door: Guru Clef. He had a small bag in his arms and a gentle expression.

"Guru!" she said. He looked up at her.

"I brought you a housewarming gift, of sorts," he said. He offered her the bag. A little confused, she took it, and invited him in.

"That's not necessary," he said, but she asked again. The Pharle and the Guru had to work closely together at times -- Perdana had told her this long ago. That meant her. And him. She wanted to prove to him that she'd grown out of her crush and could be a good Pharle -- an adult. She was an adult now, in her own house.

This time he nodded and accepted.

"It's tea," he said, when he stepped over her threshold. "It's good to have special tea for an important occasion."

She smiled, touched by his consideration. She offered him a seat and went to the kitchen, pulling out the nice cups. Their conversation after that was easy -- Clef treated her with the same respect he had always given Perdana, and she did her best to show herself worthy of that.

They talked for a while, about summer plans and books, and when Clef left, Presea felt better about being in the house alone. There was something about having guests that made it easier to see as her own home.

So she washed the cups and put them away, and went on with her day.
