[Avatar] one man's constant (Sokka/Suki)

Title: one man's constant
Fandom: Avatar
Length: 274 words
Prompt: More of the A:TLA cyberpunk AU.
Pairing: Sokka/Suki
Other: More cyberpunk AU (set in the same universe as with fierce electric fire). AU of "Day of Black Sun."

Excerpt: It was hard, being the only non-bender in a group of them, especially since one of them was Aang, who could bend any technology that he put his mind to. But whereas the rest of them had their specialties, Sokka made do with his brain.

Sokka was not useless. Although sometimes he felt like it. It was hard, being the only non-bender in a group of them, especially since one of them was Aang, who could bend any technology that he put his mind to. But whereas the rest of them had their specialties, Sokka made do with his brain.

And brain was all you needed to program. Piandao was teaching him, and he wasn't a bender either. This was a great honor, even if the long nights and late hours strained Sokka's eyes, and his fingers fumbled on the keys. Piandao was tough, but fair. He shook his head, disappointed, when Sokka forgot a stray semi-colon, but he didn't scold. He just made him work harder and become more than he was.

Toph could crack security systems -- servers were her thing, and she wrote viruses as fast as standard English. Aang was a wirebender first -- no phone or Internet was safe from his fingertips, even wireless gadgets (Sokka wasn't sure how that worked, exactly, if it was all wirebenders or just Aang). His sister could fix or control any circuitry. And Zuko could kill it, or power it.

But Sokka knew things. He kept the budget, he always Googled suspiciously old food to make sure it was safe to eat, and now he could program too. He was not useless, no matter what Zuko's princess of a sister said, but when she started talking about Suki, that was the last straw.

"Where is she?" he yelled, following Azula down the darkened hall. The emergency lights flickered. "Where is she?"

Azula smiled.
