[Glee] our possible life (Puck/Rachel)
Title: our possible life
Fandom: Glee
Length: 216 words
Prompt:
glee_anon: Going There by Jack Gilbert
Pairing: Puck/Rachel
Other: n/a
Excerpt: He makes his way back to Rachel at least once a year, no matter where she's gone.
He makes his way back to Rachel at least once a year, no matter where she's gone. She follows the shows, she takes the tours, and she's making something of herself. Whereas Puck always has at least one opportunity a year to tear up roots and see where she is.
There's always a need for temp work, no matter where she goes. Rachel sings and Puck mows a million lawns, makes a million cappucinos, and shows up at her apartment on Friday nights, reeking of cheap beer and regret.
She always lets him in. She always lets him out in the morning, rumpled and smelling of her.
After a while, she moves on. She always tells him where she's going next, in a hesitating tone, as if she also wants to tell him not to follow. He might have had dreams once that he should pursue. Puck always just nods and scowls. He never comes to see her on her last night in town, even if it's a Friday. She always spends those nights alone.
But it never fails -- two months, six, sometimes ten months down the road, the doorbell will ring and he lurks there, looking like a thief, planning to steal her heart again.
She always lets him in.
