[Polychromatic] stealing kisses (Clef/Presea)
Title: stealing kisses
Fandom: Polychromatic
Length: 507 words
Prompt: Christmas card fic for
chibidl. ♥
Pairing: Clef/Presea established
Other: PG for implications.
Excerpt: Her research had dragged up one more custom that she found worthwhile, besides the giving of gifts. She planted her bait early one morning and waited for her victim, smiling to herself in anticipation. When Clef appeared, he fell for it easily, and was momentarily confused by her sudden presence in the doorway he was attempting to cross.
After the day where citizens were forced to suffer through Christmas carols, and after a considering question to the Network, Presea spent a good couple hours in the library and felt like she had a fairly decent handle on this Christmas thing. There were a lot of traditions to meld, which was part of the cause of her initial confusion, but since celebrants seemed to pick and choose, she felt well within her rights to do the same.
So there were no more carols, but she did like the bells, and she certainly didn't mind all of Umi's baking. She shoveled a lot of snow (Hikaru was heavily occupied with the question of Christmas presents, and in any case Clef always counseled against using magic frivolously). And there was also the small ordeal of rescuing her stockings from Tatra's grasp. At least that hadn't become an international incident.
Greenery seemed to be a popular decoration, and that one she liked. The banisters and doorframes were slowly bedecked with pine branches, and holly carefully placed out of reach of curious kittens. The house smelled wonderful, and as business had dropped off a bit while people bought non-bladed gifts, she had plenty of time to appreciate it.

"Mistletoe," she said, sweeping down to his level. He blinked for a moment, and then revelation dawned. He leaned forward to kiss her sweetly, and then said, "You know, hanging it above my door could be considered entrapment."
"I do love entrapment," she said, grinning.
"Oh," he said, pretending to be surprised, "so you do. I'll have to be careful in the future, clearly."
"Consider it a Christmas present," she said, leaning forward to kiss his cheek. Then she chuckled.
"Hmm?" he inquired.
"Entrapment," she corrected, "would have been something like nailing it over your bed. And waiting in it."
"I figured you were saving that for another day," he said.
"Maybe," she said, pretending innocence.
"It's much more practical than getting me to do it," he pointed out, "since I can't reach very high."
"True, true," she said, kissing him again before she let him pass through the door. "I think I'm beginning to like this holiday."
"It can be fun," he agreed, considering his need for a scarf, which had prompted the return to his room, versus the need of the kitten who was sleeping on top of said scarf.
"Thank you for celebrating it with me," she said, voice soft. He met her eyes for a moment, and smiled.
"Of course," he said, and meant it, and to them both it was better than a gift.
