When Clef made it home from the teacher's meeting, he found Presea with her head down on the kitchen table, apparently asleep. Her little snores were cute, but he clattered around a bit, purposefully, until she coughed and awoke.

"What? What's going on--?" she sputtered, and then sighed as she realized what she'd been doing. He waved his hands at her as an invitation to move, and she got up from her chair, stretching and then staring back down at the papers cluttering the table. She gathered them into a pile and added them to a folder that had been buried underneath.

"How'd you ever find the time to get your master's, Clef?" she asked, setting the folder carefully on top of the fridge before leaning back against it, still clearly weary. "P.E. should not be this complicated," she declared.

"Go lay down," he said, taking her hand and pulling her toward the door.

"I was going to help--" she protested, but he shook his head.

After he got dinner started, he looked in on her. She was sprawled across their bed, snoring again, and he smiled a little. Presea was always up and moving: pushing through her teacher training, working, coaching the cheerleaders, taking early morning runs, and helping out anyone else who asked. He admired her energy, but wasn't surprised that it had to run low sometime.

He contemplated waking her, but he knew she'd been up late the night before working on the same project that had cluttered their kitchen. He hadn't even heard her come to bed, and he was normally a light sleeper.

He went back to the kitchen to take care of their meal. Presea stumbled back into the room not long before it was ready, her hair sticking up in back but a smile on her face.

"Thank you," she said, kissing his forehead.

"I still have things to teach you about finding your limits," he answered mildly, smiling back. "When you forget how to spell Physical Education, it's time to stop work for the day."

"Did I really?" she said, dismayed.

"You can correct it in the next draft," he reassured. "Now, sit."

She seemed about to protest, but then deferred visibly to his judgment, sliding into the chair. After the dinner and dishes, she retrieved her folder and sat back down, staring at it for a long moment.

"Play hooky with me," Clef said. He flashed her a bright smile. "Just for tonight."

She widened her eyes in mock surprise. "Are you really endorsing skipping homework, Sensei?" she teased.

"Don't tell my students. I'll never hear the end of it," he answered.

She laughed. "How did you plan to talk me out of that?"

"By distracting you," he said fondly, and she left the folder for the rest of the evening.
