Excerpt: Even if Gob doesn't deserve Marta he does have her, and there are some lines that Michael doesn't want to cross.
Marta can't tell him right away-- it's only proper to tell Gob first, to let him down easily (even as she suspects he'll hardly notice, as long as she doesn't interrupt one of his tri-- illusions). And Michael has spent all afternoon chasing her, trying to hide his desire, because even if Gob doesn't deserve Marta he does have her, and there are some lines that Michael doesn't want to cross ("Family is most important, right?").
Their short relationship is built as steadily as a house of cards and is as easy to topple; if it had only been another time, another place, another set of circumstances-- but it isn't; so when all the secrets come out no one is left holding the aces.
