Their first little girl is a surprise. Tina is only twenty, a sophomore in college. It's the most awkward dinner Will has ever attended, the day he meets her parents; at least they don't seem to remember him as her high school teacher. They seem to be torn between disapproval of their premarital sex and grudging approval of the age difference and Will's ability to support them. He doesn't tell them that he's divorced, or how he met Tina. He just rests a hand possessively on her stomach and promises to take care of her.
She really does glow. It's nothing like Terri-- but he isn't going to think about that, because that wasn't even real, and it was so long ago. Tina loves it when he touches her stomach and giggles when he sings to the baby. She rolls her eyes and tells him that he's being silly, but when he comes home one afternoon he catches her doing it too, and dancing a little besides. They laugh so hard that the baby kicks and surprises Tina.
They get married, because that's what they promised Tina's parents. (Will's dad makes sure to confirm Tina's pregnancy for himself - she doesn't mind letting him touch her stomach - and then he congratulates his son profusely.) It's just a small ceremony, but a few of the old Glee members attend, torn between bemusement and surprise. They've lost touch for the most part; the wedding invitation is a surprise.
Kurt takes Tina out for brunch about a week later and asks her how this relationship started. He leans over his drink, putting their foreheads close as if this is old high school gossip. Tina smiles and tells him about leaving McKinley, but not really leaving. While the rest of her classmates did their best to escape Ohio, Tina stayed on a local scholarship. She could only IM Artie so often - he was busy with his new girlfriend and history classes - so she often found herself drifting down to the high school and helping Mr. Schuester with the newest crop of Glee kids. He offered to take her out to dinner in thanks, and well...
Kurt shakes his head, still surprised. But when Will arrives with the car, he can see the way that his former teacher looks at Tina, as if she's the only woman in his life, and he has to smile a little. Maybe Will never understood him, but he makes Tina happy. That's enough.
Tina delivers midway through spring break and suddenly Will has another person to devote his life to. When they go to Nationals, his daughter cries through the other Glee clubs' performances (Will has to take her out of the auditorium and listen to the performances on the sound system). They come in second - just barely, but everyone is thrilled - and thenafter, they claim the baby girl as the Glee Club mascot. By the next trip to Nationals she's trying to sing along.
Fatherhood isn't what Will expected: it's better. He can't wait to get home to see his daughter, and he has several evenings a week with her alone while Tina goes to night classes. They sing and play and laugh and he jokes to Tina that she's going to be a looker; after all, she's the spitting image of her beautiful mother.
By Tina's ten-year reunion, there are three little Schuesters following behind them. She and Will spend most of the time reminscing about Glee with the rest, and every time someone pulls her aside to ask just how this happened, she laughs.
It just did. She doesn't question her happinesses.
