It took Billy three days of careful observation to decide whether or not it was okay to approach another guy at the 24-hour laundry. He'd been beaten up for lesser offenses before, after all-- being small and nerdy hadn't really been an asset in high school, and whoever had handed out copies of the Guy Code to males had missed Billy; he still had completely no idea how to talk to girls.
But this wasn't a girl: this was a guy with great curls who smiled a lot, and Billy had been drawn to him ever since he'd seen him putting Futurama boxers into the washing machine. Love at first sight, which had freaked Billy out further because he hadn't quite realized he liked men, and the revelation hit him like a freight train. There was no denying the fact that his heart was pounding even more than it had when he'd summoned up the courage to ask the redheaded woman who used to come here a lot for a quarter. (That was as close as he'd ever gotten to being laid.)
"Hey," Billy said, and his voice was more gruff than he'd intended. He began to panic about his lack of social skills, but the other man smiled brightly and extended a hand in greeting.
"I'm Will," he said, and his handshake was firm. Billy felt inadequate again, but Will was actually really good at putting him at ease. Will was a Spanish teacher, and there was pale skin on his left hand where he was missing a ring. Billy's heart fell when he noticed. He lost track of what Will was saying, only tuning back in when the other man mentioned something about singing.
"Huh?" he said stupidly. Will laughed in a self-deprecating manner, scratching at his neck.
"I know, I know, Glee Club isn't... coaching football or anything, but I loved it in high school. My ex-wife couldn't stand it," he said.
Billy smiled. "I love singing," he admitted. Will smiled.
The next week, he brought Will three song suggestions for his Glee Club, and a yogurt. Maybe he was trying too hard, but then Will invited him to karaoke after their clothes finished drying, and all he could do was nod eagerly and accept.
Will had his troubles, which he tended to pour out over a good song and then some beers. Mostly he talked about his ex-wife, but there was a guy he'd recently had issues with, this Bryan Ryan, and if that wasn't angry sexual tension he was expressing, then Billy would eat his goggles. The next day he came into the lab humming, full of plans. His freeze ray was almost done; once he got some Wonderflonium, he'd be set.
Will said he liked Billy's voice. How much more would he like him when Dr. Horrible handed him Australia? They could ship Terri and Sue and Emma there and let them fight it out with the dingos. Then Billy would have Will all to himself.
Yes, yes, tomorrow was a brand new day.
