They usually met up after class on Friday afternoons to troll Starbucks for a few hours-- Ignis would drink too much coffee and gesture widely as he explained some ridiculous theory or another. Eclat would giggle and poke holes in the argument. It was a tradition they had established after meeting in high school, and continued now that they were both in university.
"Who's Keltie?" Ignis asked, squinting down at the shirt his best friend was wearing. Eclat frowned and then fluttered a hand, placing it over his heart and using the other for a fake swoon.
"How can you not know who Keltie Colleen is?" he asked. "She's a magnificent dancer."
"Magnificent enough that you wear her name in a heart on your t-shirt?" the other inquired. He leaned back, crossing his arms and smiling a little in preparation for teasing. "If you're trying to convince everyone that you're straight, it's not working."
"I am straight!" Eclat snapped, too quickly. Ignis rolled his eyes. Maybe one of these days, his friend would accept that he didn't have to hide who he was from Ignis. Ignis knew. He'd known from the day that he'd introduced himself to Eclat. Being the only guy on the cheerleading squad wasn't totally suspicious, but Eclat was also the only guy on the cheerleading squad totally failing to hide his lust for the football team captain. Ignis might be point guard but he wasn't dumb. He just didn't care who Eclat was interested in.
"Yeah, yeah," he said, choosing to placate the shorter boy for the moment. More teasing would be slipped in later. "So why are you Team Keltie?"
"Because she and Ryan are meant to be!" Eclat answered. When Ignis blinked, not comprehending, Eclat sighed. He waved a hand in dismissal.
"You wouldn't understand," he said.
"There are a lot of things I don't understand about you," Ignis said easily. He patted Eclat on the head, which made Eclat flail and swat irritably at Ignis's arm.
"How is it," he continued, "that you're so short, and yet so flaily?" He grinned. "And so in denial? And yet you insist on wearing a t-shirt with a heart on it? ...Maybe I should get one of those. Do you know anyone who would be "Team Ignis?""
"No one at all," Eclat answered dryly, still trying to avoid Ignis's "affection." Ignis shrugged.
"Well, there's me and you," he said, ignoring Eclat's immediate protests. With that sorted, he quit poking his friend and started walking down the sidewalk in the direction of the coffee shop. After a few moments, Eclat fell in beside him.
"I'm not wearing a t-shirt with your name on it," he said. Ignis didn't respond for a long moment.
"How about a hat?"
