Excerpt: Now what is he going to do, stand around and watch her take his destiny away?
He is pretty sure he has never, in his entire life, met someone so incompetent. She's a crybaby with no magical training at all, and he cannot imagine what possessed the Guardian Beast of the Seal to choose, of all people, Kinomoto Sakura.
(Then again, the Guardian Beast of the Seal was turning out to be much less impressive than he'd been led to believe.)
Syaoran is angry. He's trained for years for this job, and finally when he arrives, he's told he's not needed. He's not the Cardcaptor; she is. He wouldn't even normally consider her any sort of competition! Now what is he going to do, stand around and watch her take his destiny away?
He's so angry sometimes that he could scream, and she just smiles at him, tries to befriend him. Syaoran is good at pushing people away; at home he has no one to talk to whom he is not related to. But Sakura keeps trying and trying, and even if she's taking his place, he won't let her get hurt. Li's have honor, after all. He'll stick around and make sure no one gets killed when she screws up.
That decision has utterly nothing to do with the way his heart drops to his feet when he sees Sakura's brother's friend, or the way her kind heart sometimes makes him blink, and pause. Nothing at all.
He's too angry to leave the job undone.
