[Toy Story 3] Introducing Buffalo Billy (Buzz/Jessie)

Title: Introducing Buffalo Billy
Fandom: Toy Story 3
Length: 508 words
Prompt: Kid!fic for [livejournal.com profile] tyy_tad: Woody/Jessie.
Pairing: Buzz/Jessie; Woody/Jessie (sort of)
Other: Small spoilers for TS3.

Excerpt: The little cowboy doll struck a pose with his finger guns extended. He was drowning in an overlarge cowboy hat that hid most of his red hair.

The revival of Woody's Roundup was a surprise to all of the toys. Even though Woody had enjoyed the episodes, it had been a little cheesy, and no one used puppetry anymore. It was a little late to bank on the nostalgia value, but apparently some network thought it would work. So "Woody's Roundup" was back on the air as a computer-animated cartoon, all bright colors and rounded edges.

Preliminary market research had, however, concluded that the show was missing something. Once the producers figured that out, however, it was smooth sailing.

In fact, the new character doll became a best-seller overnight.

"You're who?"

The little cowboy doll struck a pose with his finger guns extended. He was drowning in an overlarge cowboy hat that hid most of his red hair.

"Buffalo Billy, Dad! How could ya ferget me?" He cocked his head to one side and holstered his finger guns before rushing at Woody and wrapping him in a hug. Woody looked over Billy's head at Buzz, who seemed torn between concern and amusement.

"You weren't in the original show," Woody mumbled. He patted Billy on the head, though. It was always great having new toys around, and the kid was obviously quite taken with him already. He appreciated that.

"Show?" The little boy looked up from under his messy bangs and gave him a confused smile that showed the adorable gap between his teeth. Woody sighed; Buzz laughed.

"Let this old space ranger explain something to you, kid," he said, but he was interrupted by the arrival of the rest of the crew, who were excited to meet their new cohort.

"He looks like you!" Rex said to Woody.

"Well, that's because--" Woody began, palm on the back of his neck with embarrassment, but he didn't get to finish the sentence. Jessie had been behind everyone else because she'd been nearest to the door, but when the kid saw her, he flew into her arms much as he had done with Woody.

"Well, slap my knee and call me Delilah, but aren't you an enthusiastic little thing!" Jessie said, sounding thrilled. "You do look a lot like Woody, but you've got better hair." She grinned.

"Thanks, Mom," Billy answered, pressing his head into her middle.

There was a moment of complete silence among the toys. Woody, Buzz, and Jessie shared a shocked look.

"WHAAAT?" Woody said.

"It's not--" Jessie began, gesturing with both hands at Woody as if that somehow demonstrated something.

"I think I'd better explain what I was going to earlier, short stuff," Buzz said. "Why don't we leave... your parents... alone for a moment, and have some guy talk?"

Buffalo Billy wrinkled his nose. "They're just going to make out. My parents are disgustingly in love." He sighed in the world-weary way of a child.

Jessie's mouth dropped open. Woody blushed so hard it was a wonder his face didn't catch fire.

"Well, actually, about that," Buzz began, leading the little toy away, "how would you feel about... a stepdad?"
