Mistaken Identity in the Dimness (Megara/Ariel)
Title: A Wolf at the Door; or Mistaken Identity in the Dimness
Length:
Fandom: Hercules/The Little Mermaid: college students AU (Disney Hall)
Pairing/characters: Megara/Ariel
Rating: PG for implied sex
Warnings: crossdressing; implied sex
Prompt/challenge you're answering: no_true_pair: Megara and Ariel with the title, "A Wolf at the Door"
Excerpt: Ariel had gently touched her hands, ran her fingertips along Megara's jaw, and Megara hoped that her disguise was sufficient, just for one night.
Meg couldn't hide it much longer. The wolf at the door had sharp teeth indeed, and he was waiting to rip her throat out. She didn't know why she hadn't told Ariel she wasn't a boy the day they'd met.
Well, she knew. It wasn't often that such a beautiful girl was so interested in her jokes and stories. Ariel had gently touched her hands, ran her fingertips along Megara's jaw, and Megara hoped that her disguise was sufficient, just for one night.
She didn't usually bind or crossdress when she went out. She knew a lot of other butches who were really serious about it, but she thought she was a modern woman, and there was no need to conform to those tired gender roles. Once in a while, she dressed up for fun, tying her hair back and hiding her chest and reveling in loose jeans and easy smiles. She never went to straight clubs when she did-- that was heartbreak waiting to happen.
In this case, heartbreak was named Ariel and they'd met outside one of the larger lesbian clubs in the city. At first Meg thought Ariel understood she was female. But when Ariel's friends approached, she introduced Meg as him-- "he's Greek, isn't that interesting?" --and Meg wondered if the dark was sufficient enough to finish her illusion.
They went next-door to the small bar and Ariel had kissed her, a kiss of longing and promise, and after that Meg decided to call it a night. She was becoming more and more disoriented every minute she played male.
"Call me," Ariel said, writing her phone number onto Meg's palm, and then, God help her, her tongue had darted out and played a moment between Meg's index and middle fingers.
Meg had called. They planned a second date, and she'd bound herself again, a little more carefully. The restaurant was dim and Ariel played footsie under the table, calling her by the male name she crossdressed with and talking about her philosophy class.
Two weeks were too many. Meg couldn't lead her on any longer. She wasn't a man, she was a lesbian, and it wouldn't be good enough, but she had too much integrity to continue this.
She invited Ariel over for their third date, cooking like a madwoman even though she figured Ariel would walk out midway through. She wore a suit jacket and pants when she met Ariel at the door, though she didn't bind, and if Ariel noticed the slightly difference shape of her chest, she didn't mention it.
They talked over dinner and every time the conversation paused, Meg knew she should speak, but somehow she couldn't. They moved to her couch after the meal and began kissing a little, and then Ariel's fingertips were running along her waistband and Meg pulled back.
"Are you okay?"
"Ariel, I have to tell you something," Megara said, breathing for a long moment before she continued. "My name isn't Herc."
"Oh?" The girl's expression was confused, but she hadn't ran yet.
"My name is Megara. I'm a girl."
After a moment of silence, Ariel began to laugh and it was Meg's turn to be confused.
"Huh?"
"Well, of course I knew that. I thought maybe you were transgendered. I didn't want to upset you," Ariel said.
"So you knew? You still like me?"
"I think that the name Megara suits you," Ariel said firmly, "and I bet you have beautiful little breasts."
"I could show you," Meg said, all woman in her gaze and her grin, and pulled the other woman close to her again.
