Look Away (Clow/Yuuko)

Title: Look Away
Fandom: xxxHOLiC
Length: 317 words
Prompt: [livejournal.com profile] 31_days: 14 Oct 09 // I've waited for you for a long time
Pairing: Clow/Yuuko
Other: Rated PG-13 for sexual references and general, intentional creepiness. Italics indicate future-seeing and occur without real warning in the text.

Excerpt: "You're familiar," she says, her tone accusatory, and he can only laugh.

Clow doesn't say it when they meet, though he opens his mouth and the words almost escape.

I've waited for you for a long time--

Thus is the twisted nature of vision.

Yuuko is only fourteen, though, eyes flashing with irritation at their accidental collision and he can see her face when she lets go and speaks his name, her breath a shudder, but not yet, not yet, he has to wait, still--

"My apologies, miss," and he bows, but her body language is still closed and all of her skin will be his to map one day but not now this wasn't right to think now--

She'll call him a creep and there's a reason he never disagrees,
but he can't help seeing the future. It is his curse, especially when he meets someone as essential to that future as Yuuko is.

"You're familiar," she says, her tone accusatory, and he can only laugh, knowing he won't see her again for another decade, a half-century after that, if he can stand the wait, and he must learn some control or he will see everything they will do, everything they will be, before she even learns his name.

"I can assure you that I have never been to Japan before," he answers smoothly, around the visions, and she stares a moment longer before resuming her brisk walk.

But they'll meet again, and again, and even if she can't read futures yet any fortuneteller would say there is a tall, dark, handsome man in her future.

If it all goes right. Or perhaps, wrong; some of the dreams he can't remember, waking with his fist in his mouth, trying to eat the guilt--

But they have just met for the first time, even if he feels as though he's known her his entire life.

From the way she walks away, she's unimpressed.

But then again, it isn't time for that yet.
