Progression (Clow/Yuuko)
Title: Progression
Fandom: xxxHOLiC
Length: 214 words
Prompt:
31_days: 3 Oct 09 // There are no strangers under cherry blossoms
Pairing: Clow/Yuuko
Other: n/a
Excerpt: She hadn't been waiting for him to come. That would be soppy and romantic and mostly stupid.
She met him under cherry blossoms; he tried to take her hand and she pulled it away.
"I don't know you yet," she said. He laughed.
"You will," he promised.
"And if I don't want to?"
He just laughed again.
She hadn't been waiting for him to come. That would be soppy and romantic and mostly stupid. Yuuko had been born a cynic, though he would say it was keeping the shop that caused her to be that way.
"You see humanity at its worst," he would say once, looking sadly at her. She would return a smile, waving her hand dismissively.
"And sometimes at its best," she would answer, though those times were few and far between. But she always found it difficult to just agree with him.
No, she wasn't waiting. She knew he would come, eventually, but whether she would fall for him or not was yet decided. She knew what he wanted, knew that he'd dreamed of her before she was born, and that was why her first word to him was, "Creep."
She wasn't much of a romantic; that ideal didn't go well with cynicism. In all the time they were together, she didn't say she loved him once. He had enough romance for the both of them, bringing her flowers and small charms, cooking her desserts and then doing the dishes.
But she enjoyed her life until then, before his complications. She did spells and catered to customers and spent many a happy afternoon alone with her alcohol and her pipe. When he turned up she would swear she hadn't been waiting at all.
She was simply living, and was in the end convinced to share some of that life with him.
