Remain Silent (Clow/Yuuko)
Title: Remain Silent
Fandom: xxxHOLiC
Length: 307 words
Prompt:
31_days: 1 Oct 09 // Today and today also
Pairing: Clow/Yuuko
Other: G, opium
Excerpt: She'd flip through the pages and scrawl sardonic notes in a sloppy hand, and then she'd hand them back and say, "Leave me in peace." Not that he would.
It wasn't unusual that he came over, bright-eyed, arms full of notes he'd written instead of sleeping; nor was it unusual that he found Yuuko lying on her couch, the smoke trailing around her as if she had no cares in the world.
Generally she could be convinced to abandon the couch and take a look at his work, after a lazy greeting that managed to insult his mode of dress, his ridiculous cheerfulness, and his penmanship. She'd flip through the pages and scrawl sardonic notes in a sloppy hand, and then she'd hand them back and say, "Leave me in peace." Not that he would.
But today she waved a hand and stretched and said, "Listen."
He was used to Yuuko's odd whims, but sometimes they paid off, so he sat down obediently on the end of the couch, pulling her feet into his lap, and listened.
They lay there in silence, for the better part of an hour, and Clow was getting high on secondhand smoke. He felt lazy and low, enjoying the foreign burn at the back of his throat. He wasn't one much for opium himself, but he couldn't argue with the results.
Finally she put down her pipe, dangling her arms off the side of the couch, and she shut her eyes and sighed.
"I didn't hear anything," Clow ventured, sliding sideways to rest his head on her hip. It just seemed like a good idea. One of her hands wandered down to tangle through his hair, but she didn't actually push him away.
"I just wanted to see if you'd shut up for a while," she answered. "Silence is such a lovely thing to listen to."
"Mm," he answered, amused despite himself.
The papers he had brought with him slipped to the floor one by one, and he listened to them fall.
