Opposites Only Attract in Physics (Hershel/Hendel; Luke/Lucy)
Title: Opposites Only Attract in Physics
Fandom: Professor Layton
Length: 490 words
Prompt: Professor Layton (Anon) Fan Meme: Hershel/Hendel and Luke/Lucy or Hershel/Lucy and Hendel/Luke.
Pairing: Hershel/Hendel; Luke/Lucy; Flora and Florin gen
Other: n/a
Excerpt: But neither Flora nor Florin would have even suspected the scene that they happened upon one afternoon returning from shopping. A few loud noises and polite coughs meant that Hendel had soon set her hat to rights, and Luke's blush had faded to a warm glow, but the damage was done.
It wasn't a surprise that Hershel got along so well with Hendel; that is, once he'd gotten over the shock of finding out that there was a female version of himself in another universe. Hendel was tall, brilliant, and had great taste in hats, just like her male counterpart. Even better, she'd heard some puzzles that he'd never heard.
It was a little surprising that Luke had ended up being fond of Lucy. He didn't have any siblings of his own, after all, and he was nearly at the age where all girls had cooties. But Lucy had an eye for mischief nearly as great as his own, and she was obviously very attached to her Professor; Luke had to respect that.

Flora looked at Florin, and he looked back at her. How can you kiss yourself? they were both clearly thinking.
"We brought things for dinner!" Flora interrupted her own train of thought, turning away from her counterpart pointedly.
"We could go cook something!" Florin threatened.
"Oh, no, no no," Hendel interrupted, waving her hands in a distressed manner and fixing her hat again. "Please let Hershel and I, don't go to any trouble."
"I think we should help," Flora said firmly.
"I'll help you, Professah!" Lucy interjected, and Luke nodded eagerly.
Flora and Florin exchanged another glance. "All right," Flora agreed after a moment.

If too many cooks spoiled the broth, then perhaps it was inevitable that the kitchen suffered. When the smoke cleared and the burning pot was put out, the four stood almost sheepishly in the midst of the mess. There was something ashy on Hendel's cheek, and an exact print of it backwards on Hershel's cheek as well. Clearly, Florin thought grimly, the professors had gotten distracted.
But the house was okay, the pot the only martyr to their distraction. They could get through this weirdness. Hopefully.
Flora welcomed the distraction of a knock on the door, but when she opened it, it revealed a new problem. There on the step stood two people who could have been identical twins, had one not been male and the other female. The male bore more than a passing resemblance to Luke; the female could have been Lucy had the girl already finished puberty.
"Flora!" the older Luke said jovially. "It's been so long since I've seen you!"
After a moment's consideration, Flora shut the door quietly and politely and went looking for Florin. If they were lucky, they could catch a train and be back in St. Mystere by nightfall.
At this point, she didn't even care which version of St. Mystere it would be.
