She goes to her first concert at the age of five, tucked up on her father's shoulders at the county fair. The band isn't any good but she can feel the bass thumping through her heart, thrilling something in her she's never felt before.

She and Paulie break up three more times before they get married. Once it's her fault, once it's his, and one time they can never quite figure out. In any case, they always end up back in each other's orbit again. They just can't stay away.

She majors in Spanish, then changes to English, and then to teaching. She ends up teaching kindergarteners how to fingerpaint and count to ten, and every year there's one little boy who has an impossible crush on Mrs. Bleeker.
