Less You Explain (Eriol gen)

Title: Less You Explain
Fandom: Cardcaptor Sakura
Length: 224 words
Prompt: 3 facts from my headcanon about Eriol for [livejournal.com profile] chibidl
Pairing: Eriol and guardians gen; hint of Clow/Yuuko

Excerpt: When he sends his first letters back to Japan to Sakura and Tomoyo, he also sends one to Fujitaka.

1.
He only waited long enough to be used to this new body-- a few weeks at most-- before he made Ruby Moon and Spinelsun. He did it because he needed to, and because he'd Seen he would, and because Ruby would make a good false guardian for him when he needed it.

And he also did it because he was impossibly lonely, a little boy with memories of Cerberus and Yue and Mokona and the Cards-- and a few precious shreds of his last relationship, the bits he'd afforded his new self.

He loves them for themselves, anyway.

2.
When he goes back to England, he lets himself begin to age; rather, he cannot prevent it from happening. He hasn't celebrated a birthday since he was born, even though he picked a day for it. Eriol turns twelve, turns thirteen, turns fourteen.

His family bands together and gives him magnificent birthday parties, over his protests. Secretly, fondly, he begins to look forward to them.

3.
When he sends his first letters back to Japan to Sakura and Tomoyo, he also sends one to Fujitaka. "I know we are not quite a traditional family," he writes, "but I would still like to get to know you."

They become great correspondents, and close friends... family. Perhaps, Eriol thinks, amused, it is a little narcissistic. But he writes to his other self, all the same.
