If You Know (Layton/Legal)
Title: If You Know
Length: 355 words
Prompt: Professor Layton (Anon) Fan Meme: Layton and Legal go drinking; Legal gets drunk.
Pairing: slight Layton/Legal
Other: PG for drinking antics
Excerpt: His face was flushed and his breath was awful; Layton was smelling it much more than he should because Luke simply wouldn't keep his hands off of him.
"So. So I was saying. If. If you know what I mean?"
"I'm afraid I don't," Layton responded, his lip curling as he looked down at the boy who had drunkenly wrapped an arm around Layton's waist. The older Luke was a handsy drunk, seeming not to care that Layton didn't possess the anatomy most boys were looking for. His face was flushed and his breath was awful; Layton was smelling it much more than he should because Luke simply wouldn't keep his hands off of him.
"I think we should be going home," Layton continued shortly. And I can't imagine why I thought it would be a good idea to do this.
Well, it wasn't every day one had to confront the awkwardness and pressure of coming to the future, of all places, and seeing who Luke had become, and realizing that oneself was utterly, utterly unable to ask the question biting at one's lips...
Where am I, here in this future?
Layton didn't drink, even though Luke had happily accepted his invitation and even offered to buy him a round, but he sort of wanted to. He walked down the street alongside the other, as preoccupied by his worries as Luke was with his drunkenness, and he didn't even realize that they'd made it back to the hotel until they were standing on the doorstep.
"Had a lovely time," Luke said, leaning heavily on his shoulder and breathing in his ear, "professor~~"
That new voice saying that old name made Layton's heart jump unpleasantly. He frowned only a little and unlocked the door.
"Go ahead to bed. I'm going for a walk," he said, only waiting to make sure that Luke stumbled in the correct direction before he set off down the dark street again. He walked in a direction that should have been familiar, away from an apprentice who was so different that he might as well be a different person.
Layton wished that drinking would solve this problem, but it would just make it worse. A good walk, and he'd go back.
Maybe it would look better in the morning.
