To Darn (Clow gen)
Title: To Darn
Length: 178 words
Prompt: n/a
Pairing: Clow gen; Fei Wong mentioned
Other: n/a
Excerpt: He makes things by hand because he can.
He makes things by hand because he can. And he could do the same work by magelight with power flowing through his hands as precisely as a needle, but he won't.
He works by candlelight, pushing his glasses up on his nose absently and threading the needle by licking the end of the thread and guessing. His hands are sure and soft, and his stitches are slow and close and concentrated.
Fei Wong doesn't understand why his brother doesn't simply create; he has the power to do it. There's a lot of things Fei Wong doesn't understand, but this is perhaps the most important one.
The greatest task when one is a magician is to use the least amount of magic possible; to balance spells with conversations and magic circles with scrubbing the chalk afterwards. Clow might be thinking about tomorrow, but he is still darning his socks today.
Actions hold the universe together. Not magic. It was a hard lesson for Clow to learn.
It is one he'll never forget. He threads the needle again.
