Morning-Afters (Clow/Yuuko)
Title: Morning-Afters
Length: 358 words
Prompt:
6_cocktails: 2. Gloomchaser
Pairing: Clow/Yuuko
Other: n/a
Excerpt: She leaned across her couch, arm over her eyes, and watched as he wandered through and back again, pausing to pick dust off some of her treasures and scowl about the mess.
He was in a truly awful mood today, and Yuuko wasn't feeling much better. She hated it when he was like this, sulking and muttering and pacing around the shop, lost in thought. She'd already tried teasing him and had only been snapped at. Her last resort was still in a bottle in the kitchen cabinet, and it wasn't time for that yet.
She leaned across her couch, arm over her eyes, and watched as he wandered through and back again, pausing to pick dust off some of her treasures and scowl about the mess. She kicked another bottle back out of the way without getting up and scowled as well.
The fourth time he stalked into the room, she waited until he was studying an ornamental vase and came up behind him, putting her foot down firmly on the part of his robe dragging on the floor. When he tried to move, he jerked around in surprise. His mouth set in a thin line and then he opened it to complain, but she thrust the bottle into his hands and stepped away.
"There's always tomorrow," she muttered, meeting his eyes and daring him to challenge that statement.
He wouldn't, not yet. He sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose and said, "It should have worked yesterday."
"It would help if you learned to spell properly," she said. "You made a mistake with the seventh symbol and it's just lucky you didn't blow up the shop. If you'd come to bed instead of working all night, maybe you wouldn't make stupid mistakes."
His protest died and his eyebrow twitched. "I see. And you didn't point this out earlier because...?"
"Nothing's free," she said, shrugging.
"And not because you don't think I should do this."
Yuuko sighed and crossed her arms. "I don't feel like having this argument again. Open the bottle, take a break from work, and I'll fix all of your mistakes later."
"It might be a mistake to work drunk," he said, the corner of his mouth curling up into a half-smile.
"We'll find out, then, won't we?" she replied, smiling as well.
