Holidays with the Family (Eriol gen)
Title: Holidays with the Family
Length: 431 words
Prompt: Write about your character celebrating a holiday.
Pairing: Eriol/Kaho mentioned; Syaoran/Sakura
Other: This is, um, very old.
Excerpt: "You must come to see us," she had said, her sweet voice sparking across the phone line as if she were standing there next to me. In fact, I could see her in my mind's eye-- a woman with bright green eyes, hair grown long, just recently grown up herself, but not in her heart, where it mattered.

Clow had praised that child-like innocence, and so did I.
"They are family, really, don't you think?" she continued. "Being that you're like Dad's brother, well almost, and they are Clow's descendants, so they are practically yours...."
"Clow had no children by a woman," I felt the need to correct her. "They are Clow's brother's descendants."
"They are family," she said. "And you are like my family, Eriol-kun. Would you come?"
I had been looking forward to a quiet Christmas at home, with my own family, but I could not resist her kind plea.
"I will come," I said, "to Hong Kong, a place that I, that Clow, has not been for a few hundred years."
"I don't think it has changed much," Sakura said, laughing.
*
She was right. There were more buildings, of course, of course, but the heart of the city was still there, the magic pulse that I recognized immediately, like one recognizes a dear friend one hasn't seen in years. The return was just as poignant.
None of my companions had ever been to Hong Kong and they were clearly fascinated. Nakuru was already searching out interesting places to shop; likely giving Spinelsun motion sickness, if the jerky movement of her purse meant anything (and of course he had come; I had enough magic still to hide his small form from prying eyes at the airport).
"It will be nice to see Sakura-chan again," Kaho said to me, her hand in mine, and I couldn't help but grin.
"Do you think I can get Li-kun to call me Uncle?" I asked. Though he had grown to a respectable height, judging from the photographs Sakura sent me, I had achieved my own full height and I was, in fact, taller than him. Finally. I knew already it would be a bone of contention.
"I doubt it," she said, laughing. Nakuru called for our attention, wanting to show us something interesting she found-- it turned out to be Sakura, red-faced and cheerful, with Li-kun on her arm. As soon as she saw us, she disengaged from her husband and hugged Nakuru and Kaho in quick order.
"Merry Christmas!" she said, flying into my arms, and I grinned and wished her the same.
It was a wonderful thing to spend the holidays with family, after all.
